Part 3 of Simple Techniques for Blending Images uses Photoshop CS6.   

This is part 3 of a 3 part workshop that includes Photoshop Touch for iPad, Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 10.  This third part uses Photoshop CS6.

My all time favorite software for manipulating images is Photoshop in any the current version.  After using Photoshop for 15 years it is the most natural for me and simplest.  Now when I say simplest I don’t mean in getting started.  It takes lots of practice to get proficient, but it is well worth it.  This workshop was created on Photoshop CS6 and will look at several ways to blend images in the simplest of ways and get interesting results.  The ideas in this workshop revolve around a few basic techniques.  Once you play with some of these ideas you will be able to make it happen for your images in your own way.  I am just guiding you to some techniques to be tweaked how you see fit.  Remember one thing- you will need images that work with each other and sometimes it can be tricky, so try several image combinations until you get the results you are looking for.

Simple Techniques for Blending Images Part 2 Phototshop Elements 10

For this workshop we will be blending a couple of images using Photoshop Elements 10.  Part 1 of this workshop, posted in June of 2012 on the KathyAnne Art site, focused on the iPad app- Photoshop Touch.  This workshop will be a bit different as we blend 2 images and eventually create a stripe layer to go in between the images.  

Hint: If you are new to Elements 10 and would like to learn some of the basics you can go to Lynda.com on the internet and watch videos on the basics of Elements 10.  You won’t find the basics of Elements or Photoshop in my tutorials, just things that I develop for my manipulated art images with the programs.  For this process we will go step by step and if you have any questions feel free to email me. 

One more thing- I always open Photoshop Elements 10 in Editor Mode since I don’t want Adobe Organizer to organize my images.

         This is part 1 of a 3 part workshop that includes Photoshop Touch for iPad, Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 10.  This first part uses Photoshop Touch.  

 When first using the Photoshop Touch app on my iPad it amazed me the effects that are included for image manipulation.  There are so many wonderful ways you can use this app to change photos resulting in excellent results.  For the purpose of this workshop we will concentrate on the Photoshop Touch version of a mask.  They call it Fade and it allows you to blend images to create an interesting composition.  In the following 2 parts of this workshop I will teach you how to do similar techniques in both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 10.

Constructing and Printing Crinkle Surfaces

My obsession with digital alternative surfaces led me to create these crinkled surfaces for

printing. There is a slim line between being able to print these substrates and not. If the

crinkles are too deep they quickly make the surface to thick. My advice- start with thin paper if

you have a regular printer and it you have an art printer that will print a decent thickness, just

don’t over due the crinkle part if you use canvas and thicker surfaces. When starting with this

technique I used lightweight canvas From there I tested silk paper, a thin handmade paper and

thin smooth kozo paper. The canvas definitely is the thickest when finished and needs a printer

that will print thicker surfaces.

Digital Prints on Tissue Paper

Here’s a wonderful simple way to create a surface to print from tissue paper.  The beauty of this substrate is that if you make it thin enough it will fit through most any direct pass through printer.  Tissue paper surfaces take only a few minutes to prepare and overnight to dry.  After drying the surface you can add your favorite inkAID precoat and you are ready to print.  For this workshop my surfaces were precoated with inkAID Translucent pre coat.

Learn Useful Things for Digital Printing from Photoshop and Photoshop Elements

New monthly mini workshop using both Photoshop CS5 

and Photoshop Elements 10.  

There are a few basic things you should know about digital printing for successful output.  This workshop will show you how to size and resize for optimal print resolution.  It will show you how to play with canvas size and the ever important printer profile for printing.  Along with some color corrections hints.  Instructions for both Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop Elements10 are included. 

 As programs are upgraded or if you have a previous version these settings could be in a different place in the various boxes, but you can still look around and find the settings needed.  Regular Photoshop usually remains pretty constant although there is no guarantee.  Photoshop Elements likes to make these places in the print boxes ever changing and not the most user friendly.  Not sure why a program like Elements that should be easier to navigate changes a lot just to confuse you.   Whatever the changes are if you look around in your software print boxes or other selection boxes you should be able to find the controls to accomplish your task.

Creative Digital Printing Part Two

Creative Digital Printing - No Art Printer Required Part Two is about working with lightweight metals.  These metals are soft and thin and will go through a straight pass through printer.  You will need to prepare the metals and attach them to a carrier sheet.  This workshop will show you how to accomplish this.  Remember - using weird things in your printer could cause a problem.  Although I never have a terminal problem there is always a possibility, so take care when performing these techniques.  In the end you will have some wonderful printed surfaces to use in your artwork and projects!
